- Slow sinks and showers. Water hangs around the plughole. Usually a partial blockage building further down, and it never clears itself.
- Gurgling toilets or floor wastes. Air pushing back through trapped water. The line is restricted somewhere past the fixture.
- Bad smells, especially sewage. A cracked line or a dry trap. If it smells like sewage, treat it as a blocked sewer until proven otherwise.
- Water pooling at the gully. The overflow relief gully is doing its job, which means the line below it is not.
- The toilet level moves on its own. It rises or drops when nobody flushed. That is pressure shifting behind a blockage downstream.
